The upazila administration has vacated the ancestral house of poet and novelist Sunil Gangopadhyay in Dasar of Madaripur. On Tuesday, the lock of the BNP leader was broken in the tin shed room (Sunil Smriti Library) in East Maijpara of the upazila. Later a new lock was installed there.

Earlier, on Saturday, the former legal affairs secretary of Kalkini Upazila BNP, Sohel Hawladar, took possession of that house claiming his family land. He vandalized several pictures, tools and furniture used by the writer in the house and kept the OMS rice stocked there and locked the house. A report titled 'Sunil Gangopadhyay's father's life in possession of BNP leader in Madaripur' was published in Prothom Alo's online edition on Monday.


Kalkini Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Uttam Kumar Das took Sunil Gangopadhyay to his ancestral home at around 12 noon today along with police and army personnel. Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mahbooba Islam, Dasar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiqul Islam and others were present at this time.

UNO Uttam Kumar Das told Prothom Alo, "The administration has taken complete control of Sunil Gangopadhyay's ancestral home and land." A new lock has been installed in the writer's room. Everyone has been warned that no one can enter this land without permission. Sunil Memorial Museum, Bust of Sunil, Open Stage adjacent to the pond, Shaan Bandano Ghat will be constructed at the writer's ancestral house very soon. The author's patrika vita will become a sight to behold.'

Uttam Kumar Das also said, "Legal action has not been taken against the accused leader yet." The matter has been discussed with the higher authorities. Legal action will be taken according to their decision.

Dasar Thana-Police will monitor to prevent outsiders from entering the author's ancestral home. When asked, OCSM Shafiqul Islam said, "Legal action will be taken against the occupier if a written complaint is received from the upazila administration." The police will monitor that house so that such incidents do not happen again.
