Idol under construction vandalized in Tangail, Bangladesh

An under-construction idol was vandalized in Tangail's Basil. The incident took place at Sri Sri Radha Gobind Mandir in Sahapara of Karatipara of upazila on Tuesday (September 17) night. People of local minority communities are terrified of idol vandalism. After the incident, the administration visited the site on Wednesday (September 18).

Deepta Saha, general secretary of Sri Sri Radha Gobind Mandir in Sahapara, Karatipara, said that the Durga Puja idols are being constructed. Clay work is done on the idol the previous day. Later, four idols of the temple were vandalized at night.

Visiting the temple on Wednesday morning, it was seen that the idols under construction were broken. Later I informed the local administration. For the past 19 years, Durga Puja has been taking place in the temple courtyard. This is the first time the idol of the temple was vandalized. We are worried about the worship. I have decided to visit the temple from tonight. Since I have done the puja, I have made arrangements to prevent further breakage.

Upazila Habla Union Parishad Chairman Khorshed Alam said, I went to the spot. A few idols were vandalized in Karatipara temple. Only earthworks have been done in them. Administration people also visited.

In this regard, the officer in charge of Basail police station OC Mazharul Amin said, I have visited the scene. No one has filed a written complaint so far. Work on the idols in the temple is going on. Some of these statues have been broken.
