Shahbagh blockade on 8-point demand including stop minority torture
Under the banner of Sanatani Adhikar movement, Shahbag intersection has been blocked.
The people of the Hindu community have blocked the Shahbagh intersection of the capital with eight-point demands, including an end to the persecution of minorities in the country and the trial of the guilty. They besieged Shahbagh today at around 4:30 pm on Friday. It has stopped the traffic and created a traffic jam.
This program is being held under the banner of Sanatani Adhikar Andolan, which consists of various organizations of the Hindu community. Law enforcement personnel are present at the scene.
After the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government, attacks on minority communities took place in different parts of the country. Then the people of the Hindu community started a movement demanding eight points by blocking the Shahbagh intersection. According to the blockaders, when the chief adviser of the interim government and other advisers promised to implement their demands, they announced the suspension of the movement. However, they besieged Shahbagh again today as their demands were not met.
A section led by Bangladesh Hindu Parishad took a position at Shahbag intersection around 4:30 pm. After some time, another section from the National Press Club, led by Sanatan Adhikar Andolan, joined Shahbagh.
The agitators raised various slogans. These include 'Leave Bangla in words, Bangla is your father and grandfather', 'My land is my mother, I will not leave Bangladesh', 'Your country is my country, Bangladesh is Bangladesh', 'The Hindus of the world are one, be one', 'My temple' Bhanal ken, reply chai reply chai', 'I am who you are, Bengali Bengali' etc.
The Sanatan community's eight-point demands include: speedy trial of attacks on minorities after the fall of the government through a fast-track tribunal, compensation and rehabilitation of victims of communal violence, enactment of a minority protection law, formation of a ministry of minority affairs, elevation of the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust to a Hindu foundation, Elevation of Buddhist and Christian religious welfare trusts to foundations, enactment of law for recovery and preservation of post-divine property, proper implementation of law on return of vested property, five days holiday on Durga Puja.
Although this demand is a long-standing demand of traditionalists, no government has accepted this demand. The government has been misleading the Hindus with sweet words at different times. The government has failed to fulfill the demands despite the assurance.
Hindus are being tortured every moment in this country. No Hindu seems to have received a fair trial. Therefore, if our demands are not met, we will take a strict stand, said the organizers of the Hindu rights movement.
